Abstract:

Based on the infrared spectra of paraffin and asphaltene, the microstructure of simulated waxy oils and crystallographic theories, mechanism of structure formation for waxy crude oils has been discussed. Results show that the mechanism is that of the formation of crystalline nucleuses, the growth of paraffin crystals and the interconnection of paraffin crystalline particles. The basic conditions include that macromolecules such as paraffin or asphaltene or resin form crystalline nucleuses, paraffin crystalline particles continuously form and grow as increase of the interactions between the paraffin molecules and crystalline nucleuses. The increase of the interactions among paraffin crystalline particles leads the particles to contact each other and bridge to form the structure. To understand fully the mechanism of structure formation of waxy crude oils is very helpful to investigate that of their pour point depression and viscosity reduction, and the improving technology of their flow-ability at lower temperature.
