The traditional houses of Bai nationality in Xizhou, influenced by the process of Hanization, contain rich traditional rites. The main purpose of traditional rites is to identify the noble and humble status of different classes or individuals and to give them corresponding identifiers. "External traditional rites" and "internal traditional rites" are included in the traditional houses of Xizhou. The "external traditional rites" identifies the status of whole clan in a hierarchical society, demanding that the constituent elements of houses, such as portal door, screen -walls, bays, roofs, and so on, be consistent with the clan's political status. The "Internal traditional rites" extends the "external traditional rites" , expressing the themes of "enclosure," "uprightness," "centralization," and " positivity" in the traditional architecture of Xizhou.
