Abstract: The issues of alleviating energy shortage and protecting environment are highly sensitive and are of strategic significance in Beijing both at present and in a certain period of time in the future.Based on an analysis of Beijing′s energy problems，such as too much dependence on other cities in energy supply，too quick rise in energy consumption，incorrect energy structure and low efficiency in energy utilization etc.，this paper points out the challenges and pressures Beijing now faces in energy security.And by taking both foreign energy security measures and Beijing′s energy security reality into consideration，the authors suggest that sustainable energy development strategies be set up so as to ensure energy security in Beijing and to promote energy development and environment protection.
