Abstract: The Poverty of Philosophy, published 170 years ago, is of great significance in theory and practice in that it laid the foundation for Marx's theory of surplus value,that it was the prelude of The Communist Manifesto as a cornerstone of scientific socialism.The Poverty of Philosophy provided a theoretical guidance and methodology for labour movement in Europe and the world, reducing the negative effects of Proudhon's anarchism.The Poverty of Philosophy expounded the basic principles of the Marx doctrine; it marked the first public appearance of a new Marxism view of the world, and is an important milepost in the development of the Marx's theory. The contemporary value of The Poverty of Philosoph lies in adhering to and developing Marx theories and enhancing "four self-confidence".
