Abstract: This paper，from the aspects of publishing time，authors，major research categories，research methods adopted，etc.，makes a statistic survey and analysis of all the research papers published on Journalism Communication Research and J&MC Quarterly from 1996 to 2005. The conclusions are drawn as follows：1) Associate professors and young scholars are the main body of conducting such research； 2) Empirical study is the major research method adopted； 3) Simple data analysis is the primary form adopted in the research of journalism and communication； 4) Comparative analysis indicates that journalism and communication in Chinese mainland prefers a humanistic research method，which is associated with some factors，including the long history of humanistic research in our country，the recentness of the introduction of communication into China，and the immature academic atmosphere for empirical study，and so on. Furthermore，the paper introduces the future development of the research of journalism and communication in our country by making full use of important modern media，such as cell phone and network under the serious academic and scientific standards.
