INTEGRATING AUTHENTICITY IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING TO FOSTER LEARNER AUTONOMY

Abstract: Both authenticity and learner autonomy are issues of great importance in foreign language learning and teaching,which possess substantial theoretical and practical value.It is far from easy to incorporate authenticity in teaching and to foster learner autonomy.The current paper discusses the relation between the two issues and concludes that authenticity could promote leaner autonomy to some extent.Some suggestions are put forward in terms of language material,language environment and task,and language assessment,aiming to realize the incorporation of authenticity in language teaching,therefore,to develop learner autonomy.
