Abstract: It is very difficult to solve the flow equations of non-Newtonian fluids by using analytic methods. The finite difference method is usually used to solve them numerically in engineering. In order to bringing some errors with the scalar component finite difference method of potential gradients to calculate the flow problem of non-Newtonian fluids in porous media. The paper presents the modular finite difference method of potential gradients. The defect of scalar component finite-difference method of potential gradients is also analyzed theoretically. That is the finite difference equations are not consistent
with the differential equations of non- Newtonian fluids in porous media. Finally, a calculation example of Bingham oil was shown the numerical difference of the two methods.
