The study observes morphological features and counts numbers of peripheral blood cells of Tylototriton shanjing from
Cangshan Mountain by routine blood smears, Wright-Giemsa stain and hemacytometry. The results show that erythrocytes in peripheral
blood cells have nucleus, elliptic or pear-shaped, with a mean density of 1.48×105/mm3, and most leucocytes are round, with a mean
density of 0.17×105/mm3. Lymphocytes are the most numerous in leucocytes, followed in order by neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes
and basophils. The results are also compared with other vertebrates and the relationship between the number of blood cells and
evolution, life habits and environment is discussed.
