Reflections on the Publishing Practice in the Attempts of Introducing Chinese Contemporary Literature to the World——A Case Study of the Canongate Myths Series by Chongqing Publishing Group

Abstract: Chinese contemporary literature takes the responsibility of telling the true stories about China, and the publishers take the responsibility of introducing the Chinese contemporary literature to readers around the world. The publishing of the Canongate Myths Series by Chongqing Publishing Group set a good example for introducing the Chinese contemporary literature. The series of were initially successful but then experienced a shift from popularity to failure to win market response and reader acceptance. By analyzing the publishing process and the academic and literary values of the published texts, we found that the application of metalepsis in the narration,the kitsch writing style and the lack of national viewpoint affect the quality of the texts, the market acceptance and publishing profits. Although that publishing practice didn't work successfully, it still set an example in terms of the introduction of academic mechanisms, brand building, and the industrialization turns of literature.
