The Lucifer Effect and Torture in Interrogation—From the Perspective of Social Psychology

Abstract: Social psychology emphasizes the influence of situational factors on social behavior. From the perspective of social psychology,torture behavior is a social behavior caused by the situational factors in interrogation situation. The psychological effects caused by power,the role behaviors of interrogator and the role interaction between interrogator and suspect,the group psychological effects on interrogator and the frustration of interrogator are all the situational factors in the situation of interrogation that can cause torture behavior. Analysis of the common situational factors that caused torture from the perspective of social psychology provides a new idea and direction to the research of torture behaviors in interrogation.
