Abstract: In the Republic of China, Ba-Shu poetics still maintained the inheritance of traditional poetics in the process of the alternation of old and new poetics. Liu Xianxin's poetic thought is a miniature of the inheritance of traditional poetics in Ba-Shu poetic history in the Republic of China. Liu Xianxin's poetic theory, rooted in the traditional poetics, advocates gentle and sincere poetry teaching theory,supports learning Han and Wei poetry and continuing the poetic style of Han and Wei. Instead of opposing new poetics, Liu holds a detached attitude to that. He introduces colloquial expressions in his traditional style poems, which is characteristic of his time and also reveals traditional Ba-Shu poets' efforts to seek development while maintaining the tradition.
