〔Abstract〕Objective: To explore the antimalarial activity and the possible mechanism of Embelia ribes and its main constituent
embelin. Methods: The antimalarial activity of the testing samples were evaluated by in vitro and in vivo assays. And β-hematin
formation inhibitory experiment was selected as in vitro assay while 4-day suppression assay of Plasmodium yoelii(BY265RFP)in
mice was used as in vivo assay. Results: Both of the crude extract and ethyl acetate fraction of E. ribes showed good activities with the
suppression rates of 25.25% and 32.17% against P. yoelii in mice, respectively, while the suppression rate of embelin was 41.59% at
the dose of 100 mg/(kg·d). The results from the β-hematin formation inhibitory experiment indicated that the crude extract of E. ribes
had a certain activity with IC50 = 500.61 μg/mL, but embelin was almost inactive with the IC50 value much bigger than 1 388.89 μg/mL.
Conclusion: Both extract of E. ribes and its main constituent embelin do reveal certain antimalarial activity. The antimalarial activity
of E. ribes should be mainly attributed to embelin, but the antimalarial mechanism of embelin should not come from the pathway of
    β-hematin formation inhibition.

〔Abstract〕Objective: To study the effect of Kangfuxin liquid on gut flora in rats with ulcerative colitis induced by 2,4-
dinitrochlorobenzene combined with acetic acid. Methods: Rat models of UC were established by using DNCB combined with acetic
acid. Groups of UC were treated with Mesalazine, and low, medium and high doses of Kangfuxin respectively. Normal saline was given
to the control group and the model group. After their final treatment rats were sacrificed, and fecal samples were collected.
Fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the changes in the number of major bacterial species in fecal samples of rats in each
group. Results: Compared with the model group, the number of Bacteroides and Bifidobacterium increased in all the groups treated with
Kangfuxin. The number of Lactobacillus increased and the number of Escherichia coli significantly reduced in low-dose Kangfuxin
group; Enterococcus significantly decreased in medium-dose and high-dose Kangfuxin groups(P<0.05). Conclusion: Kangfuxin
liquid can improve people's gut bacteria and help control ulcerative colitis by increasing the number of probiotics, reducing the number
of opportunistic pathogens and balancing gut flora.

〔Abstract〕Objective: To explore the expression of human mitochondrial transcription termination factor 3(MTERF3)in cervical
cancer and its clinical value based on the TCGA dataset. Methods:The expression of MTERF3 mRNA and clinical information of
patients with cervical cancer was downloaded from TCGA database. Then the relationship between the expression of MTERF3 mRNA
and clinicopathological characteristics, and the prognostic value of MTERF3 were analyzed by R3.3.0 software; Graphpad Prism 7.01
software was applied to analyze the correlational relationship between the expression level of MTERF3 mRNA and prognosis of patients
by Kaplan-Meier and Log-rank test. Results: The expression level of MTERF3 mRNA was higher in the normal cervical tissues than in
cervical cancers. The expression of MTERF3 mRNA in patients with cervical cancer was not related to age, T stage, N stage and M stage,
but was related to AJCC clinical stage and tumor grade(P < 0.05). Moreover, there was no difference between the overall survival time
and the disease-free survival of cervical cancer patients and low MTERF3 expression or high MTERF3 expression(Log-rank P>0.05).
Univariate analysis showed that T stage, N stage, M stage and clinical stage affected the prognosis of cervical carcinoma(P < 0.05), but
was not related to age, grade, pathological type and the expression of MTERF3(P > 0.05). COX multivariate analysis showed that N
stage was an independent factor influencing patients' prognostic. Conclusion: The analysis of the TCGA dataset revealed that the
mRNA expression level of human MTERF3 is related to the clinical stage and tumor grade, but further analysis showed that there is no
significant correlation between the expression level of MTERF3 mRNA and the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.

〔Abstract〕Objective: To investigate the attainment rate of calcium, phosphorus and intact parathyroid hormone(iPTH)levels in
peritoneal dialysis(PD)patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University, and to explore the effect of residual urine volume
on calcium & phosphorus metabolism. Methods: We collected the clinical data of 88 patients from October 2017 to March 2018 who
received PD for more than 3 months and had regular follow-up in our blood purification center and made a cross-sectional study. The
attainment rates of serum calcium, phosphorus and iPTH levels were calculated according to K/DOQI standard, and compared with the
results from the domestic and foreign studies. According to the residual urine volume patients were divided into two groups(urine
volume <100 mL/d for the anuria group, urine volume ≥100 mL/d for the urine group), and then serum calcium, phosphorus and iPTH
levels between the two groups were compared. Results: The proportions of patients who have reached the normal serum calcium,
phosphorus and iPTH concentrations were 44.3%, 40.9% and 12.5%, respectively. 4.5% patients reached all the target levels for
calcium, phosphorus and iPTH. The attainment rates of calcium and phosphorus in our research was similar to the results of other
studies, but the attainment rate of iPTH was comparatively lower. Serum phosphorus and the calcium - phosphate product
concentrations of the patients without urine were higher than those of the urine group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The control of calcium
and phosphorus metabolic disorder and secondary hyperparathyroidism in PD patients in our center is poor, which needs to be further
    strengthened.

〔Abstract〕Objective: To explore the correlation between ultrasound-detected calcification in thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of ultrasonic images of thyroid nodules of 229 patients with thyroid cancer hospitalized
in the People's Hospital of Yuxi from Jan. 2010 to Oct. 2017, and applied the same criteria to evaluate whether there were ultrasound
calcifications in thyroid nodules and analyzed the features of calcification. Results: Ultrasound calcifications were detected in 147
(64.19%)of all cancerous nodules, while in 82 of the 229(35.81%)nodules no ultrasound calcifications were found. The differences
between the two groups of data were statistically significant(P<0.05). Among the patients with ultrasound calcifications the incidence
of micro- calcifications was 95.92%(141/147), which was clearly higher than the incidence of coarse calcifications and ring
calcifications of 4.08%(6/147). There was statistically significant difference(P<0.05). Conclusion: There is a great clinical value
in diagnosing thyroid cancer by detecting ultrasound micro-calcifications in thyroid nodules. But the risk of malignant nodules in
coarse calcifications and ring calcifications is still high. Thus, in order to promote accurate diagnosis, FNA should be performed on the
    ultrasonographically suspicious nodules if necessary.
