    Hills Like White Elephants is an important piece in Hemingway's second collection, Men Without Women, published in
    August of 1927. It is the most important short story for Hemingway. This paper analyses the text from two aspects of new historicism,that is, the influence of the writer's life experience on the writing of the short story, the social background of the writing, and also the social phenomena which is reflected by the hero and heroine in the story.

    The Chinese folklores believe that there are sixty Gods living in heaven. They take turns to descend to the earth every year to protect people. The People born in a specific zodiac year may offend one or some of Gods. Tai Sui Fu (Tai Sui Talisman or amulet) is deigned to protect those people who offend Gods unintentionally. From the point of view of visual forms of tai sui fu,the article explores the explicit and implicit meanings. The explicit meaning presents religious beliefs and fate orders; the implicit meaning expresses some social relationships.

    Dating back to Qing and Han Dynasty,a large number of vocabularies were introduced to Vietnam,were absorbed and assimilated by Vietnamese.These words are called Sino—Vietnamese words.Sino—Vietnamese is a vital part of Vietnamese vocabulary,accounting for about 60% 一70% .Since these Chinese words were introduced to Vietnam,some of them have kept their original meaning,while some have extended,reduced or changed their meaning during the process of evolution.Therefore,the meaning and usage of these words should be attached to great importance for better Chinese and Vietnamese translation.Through brief introduction to the meanings and evolution of Sino—Vietnamese words this thesis analyses the influence of these WOrds imposed on Chinese and
    Vietnamese translation,and proposes some targeted teaching methods in the teaching of Chinese and Vietnamese translation.

    The patterns and styles of costumes of the Bai minority vary from group to group in Dali. They are handed down from
    generation to generation and have already become important symbols of the minority. By introducing and analyzing the clothing patterns of the Bai minority, this article attempts to illustrate their connotation and implied meanings, as well as the relationship between them and the minority's primitive worship, historical environment and beliefs and customs. Thus it further suggests that the costume culture is a focal manifestation of minority's self-consciousness.

    A Proof of Half-Wave Loss on Mechanical Wave

    In this paper, the half-wave loss of reflection of mechanical wave was proved using Euler's formula, under the nonisolated and non-slip boundary conditions. It takes the relationship between vibration and fluctuations as a starting point. The phases of incident waves and reflected waves were also calculated when taking "fixed -end" and "free -end" boundary conditions,respectively.

    Objective: To investigate different results through three methods of solving drug dissolution based on Weibull's
    distribution parameter. Method: The data of drug dissolution based on Weibull's distribution were treated with statistic calculator, Microsoft Excel and SPSS software respectively. Result: T50, Td and m values were close in three methods, but ζ and t0 values were much different. Conclusion: Data from SPSS have shown highest accurate, EXCEL method was less accurate, statistic calculator was the most unreliable method.

    The weight is determined by the index of variation degree. The efficacy coefficient method is applied in a telecommunication enterprise for economic benefits of comprehensive evaluation. The practice shows that the evaluation result obtained by the objective weighting efficacy coefficient method has certain reliability and rationality. And the difference of comprehensive evaluation method can be obtained through the comparison with other results. Meanwhile, it has little effect on high related evaluation results.

    Objective: To study the dysmenorrheal status and related factors of female college students, and to provide a scientific
    basis for adolescent health cares. Methods: Questionnaires were handed out randomly to 2,000 female students of different majors.The results were analyzed. Results: A relatively high percentage (72.41%) of female college students have a history of dysmenorrheal. Conclusion: The dysmenorrheal affected the living and learning of female college students to some extent, only severe dysmenorrheal needed medical intervention, appropriate lifestyle and health care could relieve the symptoms of dysmenorrheal.

    This paper analytically recorded Chinese patents during last two decades on the medicinal applications of Cynanchum
    wilfordii (Maxim.) Hemsl as a Miao nationality herbal drug and Geranium strictipes R. Knuth as that of Bai/Yi nationalities. The two herbs from different families possess the same popular name of Geshanxiao. Their origins, varieties, nomenclature, folk conventional usage, major functions, and their compatibility principles are compared and summarized in order to furnish more information and suggestions on relative on-going R&D projects of these two herbal drugs.
